FAQs
How long is your beef hung for?
To maximise flavour, our Native breed, grass-fed beef is hung for 14-21 days.
Does your Beef Box contain any allergens?
Most of our Beef Box consists of supreme quality 100% beef, however our burgers and sausages do contain the allergen WHEAT. We will provide you with a full ingredients list of these products at collection/delivery and allergens are marked in bold type.
Is your meat certified Organic, Free range or High Welfare?
- Certified, No. Unofficially, yes.
- For our small-scale business, we just don’t feel that the time, expense and bureaucratic complexity of these certification schemes is worth the badge of official membership. However, we do hold ourselves to the moral standard that these schemes represent and operate within most of their legislated practice.
- Instead, we invite YOU to certify us. Come to the croft, see the animals, speak with the cattleman (aka Outlaw Steve) and see for yourself. Look in every drawer for chemicals, growth hormones and GM feeds if you really want. You could try asking your supermarket for that level of access!
Why can’t you guarantee the exact weight or contents of the Beef Box?
The ethos of Outlaw Croft is to provide free roaming, grass fed, outdoor livin’ native beef to our customers. If we wanted guaranteed growth and precise final weights then we would confine the cattle in feed lots and force them to eat processed feeds. Instead, by rearing our cattle on natural pasture, we have to accept that although the quality and flavour will be superior, we have to estimate our weights based on the previous years return from the butcher. We offer a minimum weight as a guarantee, but the final weight and configuration of each Beef Box will be unique.
When will my Beef Box be ready and how much freezer space do I need to store it?
- We’re aiming to get our lovely beef back from the butcher in October. As we don’t have our own abattoir or butchery, we cannot fully control our collection schedule. But we can keep you notified of any updates via email, and will be able to book collection/delivery for late October/early November.
- For one Beef Box: around 110 litres of freezer space should be plenty (that’s quarter of a big garage freezer). The beef will be frozen and vacuum-packed in portions for flexibility of storage and so that it arrives to you as fresh as possible.
Do you offer delivery or collection?
- We can only offer delivery within our local area (postcodes AB42, 43, 53 & 54). Otherwise, we invite you to arrange a Collection Day.
- To collect your Beef Box(es), we can arrange a time and date in advance that suites you. The experience can be a simple ‘collect and go’ set up, but if you prefer: you can meet the team, see all the animals, ask any questions and chat about all things farm. Steve will talk about grazing plans, hedges and his DIY hay-making until the cows come home if you let him.
How do I pay for my Beef Box?
- Once we have confirmed your order, we ask for a 20% deposit. This will be fully refunded if we have to cancel your order due to unforeseen circumstances. For deposits, we would prefer to use PayPal, but ultimately we are flexible and will accept most methods of payment.
- The remaining balance will be arranged once we have your Collection Day confirmed. Again, we are flexible with your preferred payment method.
- We will provide you with invoices for your deposit and final payment.
