Here on the croft, we love our ducks. They are not just delightful creatures; they play an important role in our ecosystem by keeping pests at bay, and their tough nature is a perfect fit to outdoor living.
Each duck has its own personality, bringing a unique charm to our daily lives. The girls are given unrestricted access to all areas of the croft during daylight hours (please excuse the mess on our doorstep). This supports their natural foraging instincts and ensures they always have fresh ground to investigate. They don’t have the same roosting behaviour as chickens, so we make sure to track them all down and shepherd them into protected enclosures come nightfall.
Right now, we’ve got four types of egg-laying ducks in the mix. This keeps the flock dynamic interesting: some love to forage around, while others are all about those swim sessions.
